A quote on a museum wall.
A fisherman standing at the helm.
Families who endured.
A castle built from local stone.
An architect who wondered if his name would matter a hundred years from now.
Sometimes a place gives us more than history.
It gives us a question.
John Hays Hammond Jr. held more than 500 patents. His inventions helped shape modern communication, navigation, and technology.
Yet what stayed with me wasn't the list of accomplishments.
It was a single thought he wrote decades ago.
"Where will our name be in a hundred years?"
Walking through the castle, then along Gloucester Harbor, I realized something.
Perhaps legacy isn't measured by what survives us.
It's measured by what continues through us.
The kindness someone repeats because of us.
The courage someone discovers because we believed in them.
The curiosity we awaken.
The love we leave behind.
Buildings weather. Stone erodes. Names fade.
But love has remarkable architecture.
It keeps building long after we're gone.
So maybe the question isn't...
"Will I be remembered?"
Maybe it's...
"What will continue because I was here?"
Legacy endures.
Love endures.
Keep becoming. 🦋
